ENSURE PAINTING QUALITY IN HIGHLY AUTOMATED PAINTING PROCESSES

26. March 2020

In a modern paint shop, the painting equipment is operated by using compressed air. The quality of painting results not only depends on the used equipment, but also on the quality of the compressed air, which is used to operate the painting system. Compressed air is used in the painting guns, which means the compressed air is directly in contact with the paint and is part of transferring the paint to the object. Therefore, painting equipment manufactures define the equipment’s requirements on the compressed air quality. But in most of the applications, the compressed air is supplied by the end user who is using the equipment. This leads to the fact that the equipment manufacturer is not in control of the quality of painting results anymore.

The only way to ensure a consistent high-quality painting process, is by monitoring the compressed air, supplied by the end users. Painting equipment manufactures are now starting to use measurement tools for compressed air quality to monitor the compressed air quality.

Two solutions are designed to be used in such applications:
Client side – A stationary compressed air quality analyzer (SUTO S601) is installed, providing 24/7 monitoring of content of oil vapor, dew point and particles in the compressed air.

Installation and service engineers – Equipped with a portable compressed air quality analyzer (SUTO S600), used to test the quality of compressed air on-site when the machine is first used.

The painting equipment manufactures are now starting to expand the usage of the measurement solutions to ensure their painting process quality. Service engineers are more and more equipped with a portable compressed air analyzer, a handy tool for on-site system analysis.
